A handful of almonds a day helps reduce bad cholesterol in the body. That is the conclusion drawn by researchers at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).
The study's author, Professor Jeffrey Blumberg and colleagues found that almonds successfully lowered cholesterol in the body 27 volunteers - men and women. Previously, researchers have analyzed the state of the blood and urine of participants in the experiment. Participants volunteers had high cholesterol. They were offered three different dietary ration with the same amount of calories. The subjects had used this diet for one month. The first group offered to take daily food "whole enchilada" almonds - 70-73 grams. Second - half portions. The third does not eat almonds .
As a result, the researchers found that the volunteers from the first group bad cholesterol in the body decreased by 19 percent compared with the beginning of the study. In the second group the figures were much lower. And in the third situation with cholesterol almost unchanged.
Research has proven the positive effect almonds on health. But scientists are also planning to hold a number of additional studies. They want to explore further substances contained in the almond and is a powerful antioxidant.
