The journal The Lancet published the results of the study a broad group of European scientists, led by Dr. Marie Pedersen from the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of the environment in Barcelona. They found that the emissions   in the atmosphere increases the number of children born with underweight 20%. This occurs even if the level of Air Pollution   officially considered "safe."

because of emissions   and reduced the size of children's heads, even if we take into account other factors, such as smoking, age, weight and educational level of the mother. In total, the researchers observed 74 thousand women from 12 European countries. The scientists believe that their findings should prompt the authorities of developed countries to take concrete steps to reduce   Air Pollution . It is necessary to reduce the number of microscopic particles PM 2.5. in the atmosphere.

Experts believe that if we reduce the rate PM 2.5. up to 10 micrograms per cubic meter of air, thus it will be possible to prevent more than 20% of cases of children born with underweight . Meanwhile, this deficiency can lead to the development of serious health problems for the child immediately after birth, and in the following years.

In most cases microscopic particles accumulate in the atmosphere because of the diesel exhaust. Previously, scientists have found that PM 2.5. harm the human lung to cause adverse changes in the blood vessels and give rise to blood clots. (READ MORE)
