The noise from the busy road next to the windows of the house may increase the risk of stroke in people braving 65 years. That is the conclusion reached by researchers.
For each subsequent 10 decibels road noise the risk of stroke in the age group of 65 years and grows more than a quarter (27%). Danish researchers, who published their work in the journal European Heart Journal, argue that mandatory taking into account other risk factors. Such as air pollution, bad habits, life style, etc. Still, they have identified a direct and very significant relationship between road noise and risk of stroke .
The author of the study was Dr. Mette Sorensen, from the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology in Copenhagen. "Previous studies have shown a link between noise on traffic and increased blood pressure and heart attacks, - says Dr. Sorensen. - With regard to our study, it added yet another proof in favor of the argument that the noise from the traffic can cause a range of cardiovascular diseases. "
Every year, victims of stroke in Russia gets about 300 thousand people, with more than 85% are citizens of over 65 years. In Russia, a stroke is a major cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
Danish researchers tracked the health of 57,000 residents of Copenhagen and Arhus in age from 50 to 64 for 10 years. During this period, a stroke suffered 1881 people.
Participants in the study lived in houses with installed noise by 40 decibels (the sound of quiet, calm dialogue) to 82 dB ( noise lively roads ). For older people the risk of stroke increased sharply after reaching noise 60 decibels or higher.
