Breastfeeding protects against depression

Breastfeeding protects against depression The researchers found one more advantage of breastfeeding. Toddlers grown on mother's milk in adulthood significantly less observed depression.

If you have an infant fed with breast milk, then in adult life you less risk of becoming a victim of depression. This conclusion was made by German researchers who studied the health of 52 people with an average age of 52 years who were treated for severe depression in hospital. These studies are published in the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics.

The category received breast feeding   carried those patients whose mothers breast-fed for at least two weeks. Then, the information on these patients were compared with 106 people who had no mental illness. It turned out that 73% of healthy people, never faced with depression received in childhood breast feeding . Among those who became victims of the depression, through breast-feeding have been 46%.

Despite this compelling evidence, scientists believe that did not find a causal relationship between   breastfeeding   or lack of it, and depression. Most likely, here come into play other factors. For breastfeeding mothers are more caring, they are surrounded by children more love, which is very important for the development of a normal child's psyche.

Furthermore, breast-feeding may be associated with increased levels of the hormone oxytocin, which protects children from stress. Finally, the breast milk may theoretically contain components that prevent the development of depression. In addition, breastfeeding protects against diseases such as hypertension, which increase the risk of developing depression.
