The young are not afraid of a stroke, but in vain

Number of strokes among young people continues to grow at a rapid pace, which is very worrying scientists. The main reasons for this trend are smoking, high blood pressure and unhealthy diet.

Stroke has traditionally been associated with older people, but today this terrible disease more often strikes the young and middle-aged persons. Moreover, this disturbing trend is observed in the most affluent countries, like the USA, France, Germany and the UK. For example, in Albion for the last 20 years stroke at a young age   (20 to 64) increased by 25%. At the same time the British die from strokes more often than the rest of the inhabitants of Europe and America.

In the middle of the last century, the number of young patients among stroke victims was small. Today, the share of people between 20 and 64 accounted for 31% of all stroke cases worldwide (25% in 1990). Meanwhile, the number of strokes in people older, on the contrary, reduced. Nowadays more and more pensioners regularly measure the pressure, taking beta-blockers and other drugs for the prevention of stroke. As for the younger, they behave carelessly because they believe that they are not threatened with this disease because of age.

Still, material well-being of the population in question number stroke at a young age   It is of great importance. These diseases cause 46% more disability and 42% more deaths in poor countries than in rich ones. Especially hard for those patients who lose the ability to work due to severe paralysis, often accompany this disease. All this makes the issue of prevention of stroke among young people relevant and important.
