Proved: air travel destroys the brain

Often flying at high altitude dangerous. This was stated by scientists from the University of Texas, explaining that overloading of the body, caused by prolonged exposure to high pressure, lead to the destruction of parts of the brain.

Proved: air travel destroys the brain flight

Specialists conducted a study involving 102 pilot reconnaissance aircraft U-2's US Air Force, flying at high altitude. The control group included 91 people of other professions in age from 26 to 50 years. These people are chosen so that their age and medical records are as close as possible to the representatives of the first group.

Once the required number of test were recruited, researchers have begun the second stage of the experiment. They examined the brains of each person with the help of three-dimensional T-2 diagnostic apparatus 3 Tesla MRI, and then pairwise compare the degree of damage to the white matter in the brain of the pilots and those who had no relation to air travel.

Indications apparatus revealed significant differences between participants in both groups. Pilots volume brain damage   was more than 4-fold (394%) and the number data exceeds "flightless" people 3 times (295%). Members of the control group hardest hit area in the frontal lobe of the brain, which is the natural result of the aging process, while the pilots of bombers were damaged almost all the departments.

"Most likely, this is due to the increase in frequency and duration air travel "- Said study author Dr. Steven medicine McGuire, suggesting that the health of the brain in the same adversely affect other activities related to the congestion of the body, including mountain climbing and scuba diving.

The study is published in the journal Neurology. (READ MORE)
