The brain begins to degrade earlier than previously thought

Intelligence and human cognitive abilities begin to weaken as early as 45 years of age. This is the conclusion the authors of the study, which is published in the scientific journal British Medical Journal.

Experts from University College London for ten years "measured" memory, vocabulary and the ability to perceive information from 7,000 volunteers of both sexes aged 45 to 70 years. As a result, the researchers concluded that both women and men in the age group 45-49 years, a reduction in intelligence to 3, 9%.

Previously, it was assumed that some of the functions of the brain begin to work less with about 60 years of age. The findings may have important implications for the development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of a number of degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease. (READ MORE)
