American researchers from Carnegie Mellon University argue that the presence of children safeguard adults from rhinovirus. To explain this finding, scientists have not been able, however, the facts presented by them, can not be questioned.
Employees Univertiteta subjected to contact with rhinovirus 795 physically healthy adults aged 18 to 55 years. Preliminary study participants passed tests for determining their immunity to infections and underwent questioning. They had to indicate their sex, weight, date of birth, education, activity, marital status and presence of children.
As it turned out during the experiment, people who had offspring, the possibility to pick up colds decreased on average by 52%. In families where brought up one or two children, the parents were resistant to the virus by 48%, and many children mothers and fathers - 61%. At the same time adults living apart from their offspring, resistance to disease was even higher - 73%.
However, high immunity to colds acted only in people older than 24 years. Younger subjects were equally ill, regardless, they had children or not.
The study authors hypothesized that resistance to colds is explained by the psychological satisfaction of adults on the presence of a child.
