Premature babies are prone to mental disorders

Premature babies are prone to mental disorders Premature babies are more likely to suffer in adulthood with mental diseases and disorders than those born at term. This is the conclusion, researchers from King's College London.

Of course, do not just scared, if your baby was born prematurely. Overwhelming majority premature children   in later life are completely normal and healthy. And some people and achieves outstanding results, such as Sir Winston Churchill, or the brilliant physicist Albert Einstein.

Published in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry study, based on medical records of nearly 1, 5 million of Swedes born between 1973 and 1985. British scientists have found that the risk of mental illness in children is higher if they are born before 32 weeks.

So, premature babies   three times more likely to be placed in hospitals with a variety of psychiatric problems. Premature babies are more than two times greater risk of becoming a victim of schizophrenia and other psychoses. Risk of bipolar disorder is increased more than seven times, and the risk of severe depression, and eating disorders, respectively, 2, 9, and 3 to 5 times.

Still, the chances that a premature baby in the future will have serious mental health problems is very low. Rate of hospitalization among patients in psychiatric hospitals and departments who were born prematurely, is 4 to 1000, and have appeared in the light of the time 2 to 1000.

The researchers attribute this to the development of the brain in children born prematurely. Perhaps by this time the development has not yet reached the level position. However, this conclusion can not be called accurate, since the vast majority of premature babies grow up perfectly healthy in the mental plane.
