An abundance of food is bad for the brain

An abundance of food is bad for the brain Overeating may double the risk of developing memory loss as established by researchers from the US Mayo Clinic in Arizona. This danger is particularly acute for the elderly.

American scientists have found that eating more than 2100 calories a day significantly increases the risk of deterioration of cognitive functions of the brain, when compared with people who eat less. This finding suggests that low-calorie diet in old age helps to preserve a clear, sharp mind. She may even be able to prevent Alzheimer's disease .

Researchers have for a long period was observed for group of 1 in 200 people aged 70 to 89 years. None of the study participants at the beginning of the observations was not   Alzheimer . All of them have passed through appropriate tests. At 163 subsequently developed memory problems. It was found that twice as often these problems have been observed in people who consume the most the number of calories .

All participants in the study, researchers divided into three groups: one includes those who ate in a day from 600 to 1 500 calories, the other - from 1 500 to 2 100, and the third - more than 2 100. No significant differences in the state of the brain the people of the first and second groups were found. This means that the number of calories   in 2100 is acceptable daily rate for an elderly person.

"Our study clearly showed that the higher the amount of calories, the higher the risk of problems with memory, - said study author Dr. Jonas Geda. - Reducing calories and eating healthy foods can be the easiest way to prevent memory problems in older people."
