Another discovery for the benefit of a healthy lifestyle. American researchers have found that if a person sticks to his principles, his life expectancy may increase, even if he is ill with diabetes.
These studies were published in a report presented at the World Diabetes Congress in Montreal. Doctors have identified five main rules of a healthy lifestyle, which told the participants of the voluntary observation: physical activity, healthy diet, not smoking, low alcohol consumption (no more than 1-2 servings per week), and maintaining a healthy weight, or getting rid of excess weight over the last year. Total researchers examined data about the health of more than a thousand Americans have diabetes, and fifteen thousand of those who were not sick.
Monitoring results have shown that adherence to the five rules helped reduce premature mortality by 15 per cent of diabetics and 17 - among others. But the most impressive were the achievements of those who are very strictly followed the rules of a healthy lifestyle. These participants in the experiment early mortality rate decreased by as much as 58 percent.
The most effective habit for a lifetime, according to the indicators of "champions" proved to moderate physical activity. At the same time a group of people without diabetes more likely the risk of premature death increased smoking and poor diet.
