In New York, 81, died an American poet and translator Mark Strand. He was the author of numerous books of poetry, he has written several books of prose, including children, and has been awarded several prestigious awards.

The American Academy of Literature announced the death Mark Strand Known personality in the world of poetry. He died in New York at the home of her daughter, aged 80 years.
Mark Strand was born in Canada on Prince Edward Island, spent his youth in the United States. In 1960-1961 he studied Italian poetry and was awarded a Fulbright scholarship. In 1962 he attended a course in creative writing group for young writers of Iowa and received a Master of Arts. Then she taught in many universities and colleges, and in 2006 he was a professor of English language and literature at Columbia University in New York.
Strand was not only the author of poems, short stories and wrote essays edited several anthologies of contemporary poetry, translated the poems of Dante, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Rafael Alberti. In 1990, he became the poet laureate of the United States, one year in this position he was replaced by Joseph Brodsky.
