From eating to be treated by laser

Scientists have come up with an effective way to combat overeating, which can be a good alternative gastroshuntirovaniyu. The laser beams are directed to the brain, relieve hunger.

Researchers from the University of North Carolina found that laser beams can control the feeling of hunger if direct them to the brain. This discovery was made during experiments with genetically modified mice whose brain cells respond to light. The scientists were able to identify certain cells that send messages about hunger from mouse brain and back to the brain to then using a laser to activate or "off" neurons.

Code neurons activated, the mouse began to absorb food almost non-stop, but as soon as the cells are able to mute, the rodents soon lose interest in food. Study author Professor Seth Blackshaw calls this discovery find "the missing part of the puzzle."

"We were able to genetically engineer mice to a special group of neurons in their brain - the supporting core terminal strips (BNST) - able to respond to light, - says Seth Blackshaw. - Directing a laser beam in these neurons, we found that the cells or activated, or are "off". Some of the neurons sent signals to the lateral hypothalamus - part of the brain that controls hunger and processes signals from the stomach. "

During the experiment with the "off" laser neurons even very hungry mouse refused meals. This discovery may help to better understand the why people have eating disorders, as well as help the treatment of binge eating . (READ MORE)
