Oral contraceptives cause multiple sclerosis

Scientists have linked multiple sclerosis and use of oral contraceptives. As it turns out, the risk of developing this dangerous neurological disease may significantly rise in those women who regularly take these pills.

At a meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in Philadelphia, we presented the results of a study conducted by American scientists. They surveyed 305 Americans with multiple sclerosis   3 and 050 women without the disease. It was found that women who took oral contraceptives 35% often encountered incurable neurologic disease. It is noteworthy that previous studies, on the other hand, oral contraceptives associated with reduced risk of multiple sclerosis   or delaying the start of its development.

Previously, scientists from the Argentine Raúl Carrera Institute in Buenos Aires followed the link between obesity and the PC, using the body mass index. They calculated the index of 210 victims of the RS and 210 of their peers who do not have the disease. Weight indices were taken in a period of from 15 to 20 years old at the time of disease onset. It was found that if the body mass index of 20 years testified about obesity, these people subsequently twice as likely to become victims of MS. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the body of people to produce more of the hormone leptin that regulates appetite.

Multiple sclerosis is the most common neurological disorder that causes disability. The disease leads to a thinning of the myelin sheath of nerves, making it difficult to transmit signals from the brain to different parts of the body.
