Rodents infect children with diabetes

The cause of childhood diabetes can be a contagious disease, spread by wild animals. This is the conclusion, researchers from the University of Newcastle.

Rodents infect children with diabetes Type 1 diabetes

British scientists have conducted surveillance of children with diabetes and found that the autoimmune disease can be caused by external factors. In contrast, type 2 diabetes, which affects mostly adults, Type 1 diabetes   formed during childhood or adolescence. It is not associated with obesity or lifestyle.

The disease develops in the moment when the body stops producing insulin, so patients need to regularly then this substance prick themselves every day for several times. The researchers studied the cases of this type of diabetes in the north-east of England, and revealed six-year cycle with peaks of incidence, which are fixed at a certain time of the year.

It allowed to come to the assumption that Type 1 diabetes Like flu or measles, spreading infectious way. Perhaps it is a carrier of wild animals. And the infection triggers an autoimmune reaction in susceptible people. Thus, even though the children may be genetically predisposed to diabetes, the disease develops, and also exposed to infections.

Most likely carriers of the disease are rodents, as from person to person, it does not apply. However, if children come into contact with wild animals or play in any particular place where these animals appear, there is a risk of disease spread. Fortunately, infection of infections does not mean that the child is required to develop type 1 diabetes - this happens in rare cases, and in children with weakened immune systems. (READ MORE)
