Scientists have found that a diet rich bread in postmenopausal women increases the risk of development breast cancer   as much as 60%. But if the fair sex are switched from bread to pasta, the threat of deadly disease, in contrast, is markedly reduced. The study also found that being overweight in combination with the use of bread at any age increases the risk of breast cancer by almost half.

These findings led the researchers analyzing data on more than 11 thousands of Italians of all ages. About 4 500 of them had breast cancer or colon and rectum, and 6700 women were healthy and participated in the study for comparison. Observations have shown that the risk of developing the disease rises or falls depending on whether women consumed bread or pasta.

For the victims of cancer of the colon and rectum an active consumption of bread increased the risk of developing the disease in half. But men grain diet increases the risk of these cancers by 22%.
