Fear of childbirth increases the duration

Fear of childbirth increases the duration Are you worried that the birth will last for too long? It is your excitement, as scientists have found, and this may cause a delay.

It is difficult to imagine a woman who was not worried before the birth, especially if they have it first. But researchers from the Norwegian University of Oslo found that the excitement increases the fertility. And nervous women, on average, takes eight genera hours while quieter six and a half.

This, of course, is not a banal excitement, absolutely natural for any pregnant woman, but the panic fear of childbirth, known in psychiatry as maieusiophobia . According to Norwegian researchers in the body of frightened pregnant women secrete powerful adrenaline rush that interfere with normal muscles of the uterus to contract and push the baby out.

The scientists also found that the victim maieusiophobia   often need an epidural or a cesarean section. These women are less likely to deal with obstetricians about their problems, so get the help they need to delay. In total the study involved 2206 women in the 33th week of pregnancy. They all passed the psychological tests in which it was possible to determine the presence of fear of birth.

Approximately 7, 5% of women (all of whom gave birth for the first time) showed classic symptoms maieusiophobia. The researchers then observed how the process of birth, how often midwives resorted to caesarean section for medical reasons, and how much do the entire procedure lasted.

"Usually, the longer the last delivery, the higher the risk of emergency caesarean, - said study author Samantha Salvesen. - However, it is important to note that many women with maieusiophobia successfully pass through the vaginal birth, so that fear of childbirth is not an indication for cesarean section.
