A new cause of premature birth

Premature birth, prematurity can cause many disturbances in the health of the newborn - from developmental delays or death. According to the latest research, one of the causes of premature birth may be the presence of certain genetic traits in mothers and children.

The study involved 229 women living in Latin America and 179 infants born prematurely. During the observation it was found that genes that regulate inflammation, and are responsible for the formation of intercellular substance, there is a change. They determine the predisposition of women to premature birth .

Dr. Alan E. Guttmacher, acting director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the organism (USA), confirmed that during the investigation collected sufficient evidence that inflammatory mediators are involved in the process of childbirth.

According to the latest information the individual   genetic variation   may influence the risk of premature birth . These data are essential for researchers. With their help, physicians will be able to identify high-risk women premature birth   and to take appropriate measures so that the woman could carry a child to term.

The results of the study were presented February 4, 2010 in Chicago at a meeting of the Society for the Protection of Mother and Child Health.
