Researchers from the UK have found that vegetarian diet helps against one of the most unpleasant intestinal disorders. In general, vegetarians are a third less risk of becoming a victim of diverticulosis.
Diverticular disease of the colon or diverticulosis It is a disorder caused by the formation of saccular protrusions (diverticula) in the walls of the stomach or intestine. Uncomplicated diverticulosis does not require special treatment, however, patients must be aware of the presence of the disorder and adjust its power mode.
Scientists from the University of Oxford, led by Dr Francesca Crowe found that Vegetarians one-third less likely to fall prey to this bowel disorder. There is a theory that diverticulosis caused by eating large amounts of foods containing fiber. Sometimes it causes unpleasant symptoms such as intestinal cramps, bloating, gas, constipation and diarrhea.
Dr. Crowe and his colleagues watched the 47,033 British, 15,459 of whom held vegetarian diet . On average, the observation lasted 11, 6 years old, while 812 people have for this period has developed diverticular disease.
Among followers vegetarian diet risk diverticulosis was lower by 30% compared with those who eat meat and fish. Perhaps the reason for this may be that regularly ingested the meat starts the metabolism of bacteria in the gut, reducing its wall, thereby increasing the risk of diverticular disease.
