The brain grows after birth women

The brain grows after birth women Female brain after birth begins to grow in size, no matter what stories told about its reduction. That is the conclusion drawn by researchers.

Popular assertion that female brain   during pregnancy "shrinks" completely untrue. In fact gray matter of the brain begins to grow in volume soon after a woman gives birth to a child.

Published by the American Psychological Association study shows that female brain   after childbirth begin to increase in size, as they have very much to learn after the birth of the baby.

It is interesting that mothers are most concerned about their children, there is the most significant growth in key regions of the brain. Researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health in Maryland scanned the brains of 19 women who gave life to 10 boys and 9 girls.

Comparison of images taken after two to four weeks of childbirth and three to four months after the birth of children, showed an increase in volume gray matter . Growth was not too big, but quite significant in different parts of the brain.

It is known that the volume of adult gray matter   in the brain can change significantly in a few months, eating only this person will not be active during this time to absorb huge amounts of new information, the brain does not get injured, get sick, or will not become a victim of any significant changes in the external environment. The study authors have suggested that hormone levels and the need to cope with the new circumstances after birth may lead to an increase in brain cells in women.

These studies are published in the journal Behavioural Neuroscience.
