The quality of sperm in men in Finland is rapidly deteriorating. This is all the more strange that earlier men of this country ahead of this indicator in the world.
The last 10 years sperm count Finnish men in the seed has been steadily declining. For a long time, "hot Finnish guys" are among the best "producers" in the world, but now it is the title of their hopelessly lost, sperm quality poor. This is the conclusion, researchers from the University of Turku, led by Dr Jorma Toppari who analyzed sperm count in three groups of 19-year-old Finns from 1998 to 2006.
Total sperm count men born in 1979-81 was 227 million, have been born in 1982-83 to 202 million, while those born in 1987 just 165 million. But more than that, just a little less than 10% of the sperm were structurally normal, and the number of morphologically normal sperm declined from 18 million to 11 million.
At the same time, the number of cases of testicular cancer among Finnish men born around 1980, significantly higher than in those born around 1950, as the researchers found. Toppari stated that the reason for these interrelated phenomena is still unknown. However, the endocrine-disrupting substances (various chemicals, such as pesticides that disrupt endocrine system development) could hypothetically be similar cause.
These studies are published in the journal International Journal of Andrology. Finnish researchers believe that the information can be used by physicians for preventive measures to combat the decline in birth rates.
