Daily aspirin reduces the risk of cancer by 60%. British scientists have found the first scientific proof of the preventive effect of the popular medications.
In Britain, we conducted the most extensive study of the preventive properties of aspirin in protection against cancer . It was found that regular use of pain medication significantly reduces the long-term risk of developing cancer. For example, in people with a family history that there have been cases of cancer, aspirin has helped reduce the risk by more than 60%.
The study was conducted in 16 countries, and its findings were the first scientific evidence of preventive properties of aspirin for anyone who dare to take these pills every day. Already, millions of people use aspirin to protect against heart disease. Now these people will know that they get more and more protection against cancer . And their example could be followed by a completely healthy citizens, as a growing number of doctors are beginning to recommend intake of small doses of aspirin for prevention.
The study involved 861 patients with Lynch syndrome - a genetic defect that leads to the formation of tumors of the intestine and other organs at a young age. Half the patients received two tablets of aspirin per day (600 mg) for two years. The other half received a placebo.
Initially, the researchers found no difference in cancer rates between the two groups. But five years of observation have shown a significant difference. By 2010, colorectal cancer sick 19 people taking aspirin, and 34 of those who sat on the placebo. Over the years, the difference is even increased to 63%.
