As used in dietary supplements for training and weight loss ingredient, extracted from red meat can cause heart disease. That is the conclusion reached by researchers from the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
Saturated fat and salt contained in processed meat, until recently, were considered by scientists as the main reason why eating red meat is bad for health. But US researchers have found a link between L-carnitine and heart disease. Meanwhile, this component is widely used for producing various kinds of dietary supplements or drugs to increase muscle mass.
In some cases, L-carnitine, even as a means to promote, which is useful for people with heart disease. But this component by bacteria in the human stomach is converted in trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), which causes damage to the heart and arteries, as previously has been proved. It was found that the body's levels of TMAO fans of meat is significantly higher than that of vegetarians immediately after use of L-carnitine. This indicates that red meat promotes the growth of intestinal bacteria that are useful to absorb nutrients.
In the final part of the study reported that a large amount of L-carnitine in the blood cause heart disease, but only in people who have an increased rate TMAO. (READ MORE)
