Parrot infected psittacosis Moscow family: there are victims

The Trinity and the Novomoskovsk district of Moscow recorded outbreak of psittacosis. Infection picked up an entire family of 7 people, one of whom died.

In a survey of patients who entered the hospital, it was found that their home contained a decorative parrot. The bird they bought two weeks before the first signs of the disease in the family. After laboratory research at the parrot was confirmed diagnosis parrot disease .

- Buying a parrot from a private individual has led to tragic consequences - the family hearth psittacosis, which was detected in 7 patients, in one case with a fatal outcome, - reported in the capital Rospotrebnadzor.

In total for the 11 months of 2014 in Moscow, 9 cases "parrot disease," two of which - for children up to 17 years. Last year was recorded only one case of psittacosis.

Parrot disease   - Infectious disease, which is transmitted from birds and is characterized by lesions of the lungs (pneumonia). The disease can occur in acute, chronic and worn forms. Transferred once the disease does not leave proof of immunity that can lead to reinfection.

Ornithosis pathogens are chlamydia (intracellularly and develop its properties are similar to viruses). For a man as dangerous as poultry (ducks, turkeys, chickens), indoor decorative (parakeets, canaries) and synanthropic (blue-gray doves, sparrows, crows), waterfowl and other wild birds. Psittacosis is mainly infected: airborne dust (aerosol) route, by inhalation of infected air (dust, down); contact through damaged mucous membranes and skin; alimentary, when consuming contaminated food or smoking.

The main clinical signs of psittacosis is a primary human lung and general intoxication. The clinical picture is characterized by the acute onset of: raising the temperature to 38-40 degrees, headache and muscle pain, catarrhal phenomena and the development of pneumonia. Ornitoznoy pneumonia inherent dry cough without phlegm in the beginning of the disease, and then when connecting a secondary bacterial infection appears purulent sputum.
