Anorexia - the risk of an unplanned pregnancy

Anorexia - the risk of an unplanned pregnancy American and Norwegian scientists have concluded that between anorexia and unplanned pregnancy there is a connection. Those suffering from anorexia nervosa, women more frequently than others faced with an unexpected pregnancy.

Researchers from the American University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health conducted a study on how different diet among women affect the pregnancy rate. It turned out that those ladies who suffered from eating disorders, the level of unplanned pregnancies   It was 50%, while in the other groups of 18 and 9%.

The study's author Cynthia Bulik suggests that this phenomenon may be a fairly simple explanation. Women with anorexia   mistakenly believe that getting pregnant can not, because of their disorder, they lose their menstrual cycles. But this is very misleading.

" Anorexia   is not a good contraceptive, - says Bulik. - Just because you do not have menstrual periods, or they are irregular, you will not lose your chances of conception. "

These studies are published in the journal "Obstetrics and Gynecology" (Obstetrics & Gynecology). It also reports that women with anorexia   almost twice more likely to have abortions - 24, 2% to 14, 6%.

These data were obtained by scientists through the collection of information on 62,060 women in the framework of an extensive Norwegian project "Mother and Child: general research." Not long ago, other scientists have shown that weight problems in pregnancy lead to serious consequences for the health of their children. So women with a lack of weight after the birth of children often faced with heart disease and in obese women and children frequently become obese
