The gene for male infertility

 The gene for male infertility

According to research conducted in the US, every sixth couple dreaming about a child will never be able to start it. In many cases, the cause is male infertility. There has been a steady trend towards its continued growth.

Half the problem is   sperm quality . For example, over the past 50 years the concentration of sperm in the ejaculate 1ml decreased by more than 60%. Lack of sperm can be primary or concomitant cause of this serious problem. Education sperm occurs in the testes. This process is called spermatogenesis and consists of three stages. At the last stage, known as spermatogenesis, major changes occur, such as the incorporation of the DNA into the head of the sperm and its tail formation, by which the sperm to the egg moves. In the US, a study was conducted in which the material used as an experimental mouse. The scientists found that males lack of protein MEIG1 (meiosis expressed gene 1) determine their sterility, as the last phase of spermatogenesis has been slowed.

Studies have shown an association of this protein with the regulatory protein PACRG (Parkin co-regulated gene protein), which plays a key role in the formation of the sperm tail. Also, it was found that the protein is an essential component MEIG1 male fertility   - The ability to reproduce. The experiment showed the influence of the ratio of these proteins on the structure and function of sperm. Inferiority phases of spermatogenesis in mice with a lack of protein leads to disruption MEIG1 sperm maturation. Because of this discovery became possible to find new approaches to the treatment of infertility, as well as to develop new methods male contraception .
